Dementia Friendly America is a national initiative addressing Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. Rushern Baker, County Executive of Prince George's County involved the county in the initial establishment of this national effort as one of six "Early Adopter Communities" across America.
DEMENTIA FRIENDLY AMERICA - PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY
Dementia Friendly America - Prince George's County (DFAmerica-PGC), working in partnership with the county Department of Family Services, is in its second full year of operation, having completed Phase One which is CONVENE, key community leaders and establish ACTION TEAMS. DFAmerica-PGC is now implementing Phase Two which is ENGAGE, key leaders to assess current strengths and gaps.
DFAmerica-PGC has adopted a DECENTRALIZED MODEL
DFAmerica-PGC is organized into three area DFA ACTION TEAMS which cover the entire county of 900,000 plus population.
NORTH COUNTY TEAM, contains most of the 27 municipalities, works with Municipal police departments and the County's Sheriff's department to participate in the Alzheimer's Association's on-line training geared toward First Responders. Includes six towns with almost 100% of their officers having been trained.
MID-COUNTY TEAM, meets in the municipality of District Heights and incorporates the leadership of elected Commissioners, as well as the largest county chapter of AARP leadership on its ACTION TEAM and has targeted continuing care communities.
SOUTH COUNTY TEAM, meets in the District VII Police Station and has targeted civic associations, medical professionals and facilities, financial institutions, the States Attorney's Office and District VII public safety forces as the first of their public sector partnerships.

Senior Family Supports LLC holds the state of Maryland's master license for Dementia Friends.
